Guildview’s policy is to require the showing of ID for narcotic and controlled substances if we cannot identify the patient. This does not include targeted substances. This policy has been reviewed in mind with public conversations with amongst other (Ontario College of Pharmacist Board Member 2020). However, if the medicine is picked up by the non-patient, Id is required to be shown for all narcotics, controlled substances and targeted substances. Please see the above figure. Signature and documentation is not enough to meet the requirements of Ontario Narcotics Strategy; Positive visual identification must be made but not necessary needed for documentation.
Narcotic Monitoring System is primarily used to monitor physician prescription as opposed to dispensing. The system is enabled to allow for quick collection of data in regard to prescribing behaviors as opposed to dispensing.
